Description

This is for Bill ... another special day to honor that first special day. The Painted Hills in Oregon are absolutely spectacular. Although I did a bit of work to bring out the colors, they really are there, and they really are amazingly vivid. About 33 million years ago volcanic activity laid down a series of bentonite clay hills striped in bands of color. Warm reds are from iron oxides, similar to those of ordinary rust. Yellows and oranges can be a blend of iron and magnesium oxides, greens are caused by yellow in combination with blue celadonite, and the lavenders come from rhyolitic lava. Aren't you glad I dug up all that information? LOL! There's a wonderful game that's been going on in the Forum for ages and ages, and it's loads of fun! Check it out here ... The Picture Below Me

Gorgeous! I would love to see this in person! The colors and folds are so beautiful. Excellent capture! Thanks for the info. I won't remember it, but it is interesting to know the reasons for the different colors. Thanks for the link too. I had fun looking at the most recent images. I don't have any old keys though and the only image I have of one is somewhere on a film negative. It is of the key to a parish church and I took the picture because I had never seen a key so huge. I'll try to remember to check out the game again.
