Description
Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittles's April, 1942 raid on Tokyo...Being the first four of the sixteen B-25's to reach the shores of Japan must have been a double edged sword. Relief at reaching the objective, and anxiety about the rest of the flight to the targets. As it turned out, there was little enemy response and the objectives were accomplished. Personally, I am impressed with the focus, discipline, and courage it took to make a 600 plus mile flight "on the deck' in nasty weather. Some balls! And then accomplish the mission with the possibility of massive enemy retaliation.
I had this in fog and rain till I read that the weather began to clear up a bit as the first planes hit Japanese terra firma. These atmospheric render set-ups are pretty resource intensive and time-consuming I must admit...worth it?...Oh yeah!

This is stunning, it must have been a real adrenalin rush to lie in the nose and watch the world whizz bye.One of the monumental missions of the war, and quite a turn around..After bailing out, Doolittle was convinced he'd be court marshalled for losing all the planes, but instead and quite rightly he and his men where hailed as heroes... (This may explain the 'broom handle' Brownings in the tail, they flew low enough to brush up as they went :-)
