Description
Benches of the somewhat rustic ilk, captured 5/8/11, at the Fullerton Arboretum, situated on the beautiful campus of California State University Fullerton in beautiful Fullerton, California.
Worth a ZOOM.
These just about cover the different type of benches at the Arboretum. Not the most beautiful you'll find but it serves the purpose. Probably the only type they can afford because admission to this Arboretum is free, which doesn't exactly cover the expense of posh lawn furniture -- or even be able to hire someone to rake up the dead leaves and debris. The top foto shows the typical generic model that I've seen at the various parks I've visited, and the most plentiful type at the Arboretum.
Cheerio, thankx for the visit, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

I really like that stone one in the middle of the pack, Harry. Another nice collection.

What a super collection of benches you have in your Arboretum and they all look inviting except the green one which looks a bit hard. I like the top and the bottom ones and I think I could sit there for ages quite comfortably. Excellent captures.

Great collage of the benches, Harry! The wooden ones are my favourites, and even better with wrought iron sides, but the arty stone sculpture-type one is really nice too. Can't say much about that hideous green thing, they just scream 1960s and should all be burned! Our arboretum is free too, and the benches are all donated by people, mostly in memory of loved ones. There is money for gardeners and people to keep the place clean, luckily. Not sure where it comes from, possibly the city funds them, or maybe the university. I know they have facilities that they rent out for meetings, weddings, etc., and they have a gift shop where they sell some plants and other things like cards, photos, etc., although I wouldn't think there would be a huge market there.

Five good places to park our rear ends:) Another one of your snazzy, analytical collages. Keep 'em coming...another year is just around the corner...can you believe it?

A wonderful collection of benches Harry and I agree with Denise about the green one. The stone bench is good looking but looks uncomfortable. I would be sitting on #1, #2 or #5.

Nice grouping! The one at the top is a very common design, often found in malls and is quite comfortable. I once measured one in order to make some like it but that hasn't happened yet. The bottom one looks pretty nice as well. It would be interesting to see how well the top one lasts out in the open as it is, and what type of wood was used. This would be an excellent design to create with recycled plastics.

We have the top and bottom ones all along the cliff tops in my town and they are very comfy and expensive as they made of teak and similar woods. Each one has a dedication to someone as a memorial.

fascinating comments...I didn't know Wayne (Whaleman) made benches. And I agree with Denise about that green one---it's a riot, but it's also crass when compared with the older ones. (And it makes a perfect foil for the other four, visually.) The first two seem so rustic, and they're both in front of trees (nice grouping), and the light on the second one is beautiful. Dappled. I also like the rock in the first one, it makes a nice threesome---rock, tree and bench. The third has real character in its decay and cracks, and contrasts well with those grass clumps behind it---big and thick next to tall and thin. The 4th is ba-da-boom! Big and ugly, and I imagine not too comfortable. And your eye let in the blue fence in the background: nice counterpoint. And the 5th has real presence, simple and graceful, with a memorial on it. Another fine collection. You know, benches will never compete with antique cars or planes or helicopters, but you've given them a mellifluous voice throughout your gallery, and every shot I've seen has bestowed much dignity and beauty to them. Fine work once more.
