Description
This is the 1929 Carbide and Carbon Building at 230 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. I do believe this is officially my favorite building anywhere! Leave me room to change my mind, okay? But the green terra cotta, the black granite and the gold-leaf accents really do it for me!

Bill and I don't generally post similar pictures at the same time. As a matter of fact, we rarely consult each other about what or when we post, and we never do the "one, two, three, go" thing. But today we were talking about specific vistas in Chicago, and decided we'd like to present you with two views of this lovely building.

I think your's and Bill's work well together. This shot emphasizes the architecture and ornateness of the building while Bill's is more about the size.

Yes, I was a bit surprised to see you posting the same building as Bill. BUT, this gives a beautiful view of the decorations at the top. This really brings out the art nouveau in the building. Nice to see it IS visible from lower levels. Both your photos really complement each other. Since you two see things from different perspectives, this "posting of the same subject" from different angles can be a lot of fun, but also give another perspective on a specific subject. Nice you decided to do so in this case. Keep up the good work! :-)

That was a time when buildings were designed to be beautiful as well as functional.... Sad those days seem gone forever; replaced by glass and plastic clones for the most part. A lovely shot, Tara - and I'm sure you know I'm absolutely drooling over that lamppost....
