Description

Back in the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, the northernmost portion of the Everglades. With over 221 square miles (596.47 km2) of Everglades habitat. There is a section that has a walkway through a Cyprus swamp. This is an air plant that had settled into a tree. It was about 18 inches (46 cm) wide and about a foot (30.48 cm) high. It is not a parasite although it is attached to the trees bark. It collects water and nutrients from the air and not from the tree. This air plant could be collected and placed somewhere else (outside and in the shade) and it would live for years. Photo taken on January 12th. Please zoom! Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana
