This is my favorite opossum picture of all. I had just released this guy 5 years ago. He was about the size of my thumb when I got him. Alot of people don't like them, but they are great little animals. The largest part of their diet consist of bugs and small rodents. People think they are dumb because they won't run fast enough when a car is coming. What people don't understand is that a car is not a natural preditor. Animals are not equiped to understand how fast a car moves. Opossums are the only marsupial in North America. They are about the size of a honey bee when born. I have had nonreleasable opossums in the past that I used for education. They are very much like a dog. They love to sit in your lap and get their belly rubbed. For all of those people that say "They have such UGLY tails", I can only ask, have you looked at your tail lately? Most won't win a beauty contest!
