Description
This is the standard single mount, 5 inch, 38 caliber, dual purpose naval gun. It could elevate from -15 degrees for surface targets, and up to +85 degrees for arial targets. This configuration saw primary service as the main battery for destroyers and destroyer escorts, however the 5 inch gun was in stalled on every combatant ship, though on larger ships it appeared as a twin mount. On Iowa class battleships (WWII configuration) there were 10 twin 5" mounts!
I modeled this one using US Navy drawings and reference pics and simulated the cloth in Max, lit it with HDRI, and rendered in Vray. @T.Rex, thanx for your compliments and observations. The barrel sleeve got left behind during the animation (forgot to link it), and you're right, somehow the barrel was too light. So here's the update, thanx for the input,
Ron

Ah, an update. That was swift. Good job. Now this really looks like a photo. I checked your web site, by the way. Nice animation! And, once you get the problems with moving water cooling hoses taken care of, it will be quite interesting to see the animation of the 40 mm. twin Bofors a-a guns. The 5 inch/38 twin mounts were on the South Dakota and Iowa battleships. Quite impressive guns. They did sterling service at Guadalcanal, even doing considerable damage to the Japanese battleships Hiei and Kirishima, contributing to their loss. Their role as a-a batteries were also very important when it came to protecting the fleet carriers from kamikazis. Keep up the good work! :-)
