Description
Just finished the lighting and materials on my 40mm AA gun. This is a still from the turntable animation I'm doing for my demo reel. Modeled in Max, lit with HDRI and rendered with Vray. Any comments, observations, and suggestions are welcome. Let me know what you think,
Thanx
Ron

Nice job, Ron. Stopped working on my attempt pending more info. Are you planning on including the gun crew in your animation? Do you have info on the recoil travel and also the timing? Also interested to know how you are going to hancle the cooling hose animation for changes in gun elevation. Looking forward for you animation.

Oh, MAN, is this fantastic! I at first thought it was a photo. I've been on one and wonder if you've been on one, too, or if you've used drawings and photos. Excellent work! Keep it up and best of luck with your demo reel! :-)

In better shape but looking like it came off the battleship I visited once. Nicely done.

Thanx for your kind words, @Sesh - my demo reel animation will just show the model rotate. However, I have thought of animating a firing sequence, the recoil distance (according to the training film) is 7.5 to 8 inches. If I animate the the hose connections moving back that distance, and the other end of the hoses static, I should be OK. @T.Rex - I have been on single, twin, and quad mounts, but most of my reference comes from US Navy drawings, blueprints, and even a training movie on the 40mm. In researching it I found out many interesting details. It fired a 2 lb projectile, was the largest 'machine gun' ever installed on a navy ship, had an adjustable rate of fire from 120 to 150 rounds per minute per gun, and could even be fired semi-automatically. @Tholian - Yes, this one is factory fresh, I haven't added the rust and dirt yet.

Not very often these are refered to as 'machine-guns', more often (incorrectly) refered to as AA Cannon.A quite breath taking model, perfect even....like many others I look forward to the animation..10/10+
