Description

...thanks for all your interest in these P-51B Mustang shots taken at Arlington Airport, Arlington, Washington. ...this is the same low pass as yesterday's shot but taken a few seconds later. ...here is a link for the sound of the big Merlin engine roaring by: Click Here. WILL TAKE A FEW EXTRA SECONDS TO LOAD. Bill P.S. Ebots have stopped working about 36 hours ago...am working on the problem...I am receiving ebots for your comments but not your uploads. Will work around it until fixed:) "Low Pass" thumb_2300423.jpg

Even better Bill! Ebots...funny how we can become attached to something that is relatively new to our world.

Lovely shot! This one has the Allison engine in it, right? Never heard one of those, but I've heard a Merlin several times. Unforgettable!

It does take a while for the link to load, but if you want to hear this plane fly by, it's worth the wait! Great shot ... beautiful day for it! :)

Oh, Bill! You took me up on the sound file thing! All that's missing is the rattle of machine guns. Wow. And, I must say you've got a fast camera, taking photos so close in time and getting them perfect. I can just feel the thrill of standing there watching this classic fly by with all the sounds (and odors?). Great going! Now to frighten the neighbors some more! ROAR! (I wouldn't be a T.Rex if I didn't do such things from time to time, would I?) Keep up the good work! Got a picture of him landing, by the way? :-) And, thanks for commenting the "bent" panorama from yesterday!

In response to PSDuck's question above, the stat sheet for this P-51B says the engine in this bird is a V-1650-7, a licence-built version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series. I am 99.9% sure this engine was license-built by Packard. Original Allison engines were replaced by Rolls-Royce/Packard built Merlins.

Opened up the sound file Bill... And let me just confirm 100% as an experienced Merlin dude, it WAS a Merlin! lol BUT not from a Mustang as no whistle afterwards.. That was a 'thing' they had, caused I expect by that vent under the aircraft.... Spits, did not have one... ANYWAY! Blindingly good shot once more lol Well done, you lucky thing lol Can I recommend mate, going to The Fighter Collection website for Flying Legends trailer for this year..,. And turn up the volume! lol No worries about comments... Rob

Stellar to super in this awesome capture of the Mustang soaring by, Bill. It sure reminds me of the movie, Empire of the Sun, when the P-51s came roaring in low, decimating the Japanese fighters attempting to take off from the airfield. Gorgeous shot.

Indeed a 'chunky sound' - too close for comfort for little moi, it scares hell out of me and reminds me of Berlin ;( running for shelter with the adults ... well done, Bill ;) BB
