Description

Hello, and as always, thanks so much for viewing. And a double thanks to those who take the time to comment. I deeply appreciate your support. This is another piece from my Essential Materials promo/test images. I used the basic scene for the marble tile thumbnail and documentation preview in both versions. This uses the P9 materials, and has some postwork. I tried to be fairly realistic and subtle while giving it something of a fantasy feel. The dress is mine and dynamic, the skin is (as always) Valeria (Vampire) by maelwenn, and the hair is Belle Arum by surreality and Arien. All the materials are mine. The dress uses Satin and Plain. Postwork consisted of slight color adjustment, an elbow fix (this is from before V4 WM, some painting on her face (especially smeared make up and tears), her eyes, and more hair than it looks like (red hair is just my thing, apparently). And correcting some random dots from the painting stage that I somehow missed until too late to simply erase. That said, this is about wehre I started to feel comfortable with MyPaint. February was kind of a complete disaster for me in terms of production and such. I'm working at making March much more of a success. I'll probably be posting some images I _wanted_ to do in February, but didn't get enough time and rest to finish. I'm also about mid-way through the P9 version of the first light scene. I'm working on the P9 material GC version of the "studio base" materials now. The studio base is just a cube with inward facing normals and some morphs to move the walls and ceiling. Just to explain, the reason it's not a box with freely moving walls and ceiling is that there's not supposed to be a gap in it. It's sort of an environment cube. Bagginsbill's Environment Sphere taught me that I just don't work small enough to use a background I can't scale to fit my image nor put on only part of the background. This studio base is kind of a preliminary, quickie answer to that problem. It doesn't cast shadows, so if I wanted to make a room with a window, I can move the walls to fit the bounced light I want, make a single wall with a window, place it, and put an appropriate ambient image on the wall of the studio base. I call it the studio base because it's meant to be used kind of like a large warehouse type studio for sets in movies or TV. An enclosed environment you can drop other sets into to give you the lighting and backdrop control you need without a lot of hassle. In this image, I just used the studio base, and put stock photos I found of ballrooms on the walls for reflection and IDL. I know you can't make out the surroundings in the floor (I blurred the reflections a fair amount), but I think it works well overall. I would have loved a wall or two, but I don't own any ballroom props nor do I really know how to make any at this time. I'm just not familiar enough with mansions and palaces. :D I'll be making simple props for it eventually. If you have any requests for those, like cycloramas or scrims or draped objects, please let me know. These sets and props will be free, so I'm not planning anything hyper complex, but I am thinking about props that are generally useful. Anything I don't _have_ to texture is preferred (though I will be UV mapping to allow for textures).

I love that these samples are so much more than just renders of textures--this one is full of emotion, beautifully lit and the hair painting is marvelous; I am always so delighted to see a ebot from you, I know I will be in for a treat!

Much as I'd love to say your materials stood out in this image, it was the expression on her face - strikingly vivid and believable - and the folds in the dress that caught my attention completely. Oh, I'm so envious of those folds. But maybe it's a good thing the materials didn't call attention to themselves. They are so natural, they enhance this image and bring the whole thing to life.

Awesome! Camera angle, expression and pose are perfection. Excellent material on the dress. Looks more like real satin than I have seen used in a while. In any application.

Well, I'm always a sucker for redheads. Your painting of the hair and makeup is wonderful, and as always the dynamic clothing is incredible. I love that floor, now that I see it up close. Great materials, yet again. And what a lovely, yet hurt character!

Very nice render... the materials look amazing! As Robynsveil says above they sit, naturally within the scene... although actually I reckon the Satin of the dress is quite powerful within the image... the cool, luxury of its undulating folds juxtaposes well somehow with the trauma in the face of the girl. The colour composition is lovely and is also key to this I think ;-)
