Description

Back when I was stationed in the Bay area in 1977, I happened upon a gun shop and found this WWI Bayonet for a mere $5 - talk about a score! the really cool part of this is that it has the scabbard with it tomorrow I'll post a close up of the proof marks Thanks for all your wonderful comments and faves Mike

You did score on this Mike! There was a time in the late 1800s and early 1900s when a long bayonet was considered the way to go...but then (excuse the grusome detail) it takes a lot of effort and time to remove a long bayonet from the victim during which some other guy might do you in. Hence bayonets became shorter and shorter and now they are not issued at all.

An amazing looking sword - heavy duty! Jeff has got a collection of Japanese swords - more like light duty, compared to this one, BB (apologies for commenting a bit late, life has been a bit tumultuous as of late!)

That is a great deal, I know people who've spent a good deal more than 10 times that for a bayonet of this vintage. Lovely shot, too, Nice capture of the reflections on the metal.
