I'm a 50-something Scotsman living in Glasgow, and I've been into CG art since 2005, and I like to think I'm not that bad at producing stuff that people like. I just hope I'm not deluding myself (^_^) My tastes run from glamour and fantasy, anime and manga, through to retro SF images and fake magazine and book covers.
I used Poser when I first started, but now I use DAZ Studio (latest version) for setting up and posing figures, and Bryce for the final renders. My own props and sets are created in TS4, which is a bit clunky, but it lets me build some interesting stuff. PhotoShop and Gimp are where it all comes together. I use only DAZ people in my artwork, as I find the Poser people a bit lacking in the looks and versatility department. I used to draw a lot, but discovering 3D has allowed me to create the kind of images I could never achieve with 'normal' media.
Thanks for all the positive and helpful comments that I have received. It's nice to get feedback from fellow artists. Makes posting the images seem worthwhile. At one time I was producing a CGI comic for a British comic-magazine called "Spaceship Away" but the editor decided that he would reduce my page count - and I decided that no he wasn't and pulled out all together. Although it lasted a short time it allowed me to experience life as a professional comics artist.
Hopefully it won't be my only time ^_^

It'a great concept - even if Scotty is looking rather portly and Mr Bester has infiltrated the Enterprise crew!
PsychoNaut
My favorite Enterprise and uniforms from the original Trek. Treks II-VI. :D I think it looks great! But it would be hard to keep using pics because eventually it would limit some of the story. I'd still enjoy it.

As an experiment I enjoyed trying it, but as you said PsychoNaut, the available photos are so limited, with most being publicity stills. Other problems are that the way the Enterprise was filmed in TMP was different than the other films (top panel ship is TMP, front view is ST3 which I had to tint to match the TMP version), and the bridge was redesigned for Undiscovered Country, so I couldn't mix and match from the other films. And Phil... yes, Bester had to do something when his job on Bab5 was made redundant, lol I think as a project this could work... as long as there were plenty of photos to work from. TOS may work better...

Awsome work and very well executed.I quite liked Scotty as he 'aged', a great character made larger than life by James Doohan, hard to believe he was Canadian. As a one off experiment this is great, as pointed out above difficult to carry through a whole story (pity) but a great vision of what might be possible with the right material....10/10+

if you wnt further with this as a project, are you not going to be held up for copyright violation? Is probably ok for one or two scenes as a joke but to do anything more is surely in breach of copyright re, film studios' material and Gene Rodenbury's original concept rights to these characters and the general idea.

As I said, Kinchie, it was an experiment... I don't have any intentions of producing a full-blown comic ^_^

fascinating work!!

There are quite a few trekkie related meshes and morphs out there, so I reckon a star trek comic must be doable

I never had a plan to do a comic luke this. It was an experiment in combining SFX models with new backgrounds to create something new. I've done CGI comics in the past but I was told there was no market for it, and that made me lose heart and confidence. A former editor of mine even went so far as to say he didn't even think CGI comics were a real artform. When your own editor belittles your work you kind of think why bother? Anyway, thanks for the comments. Very much appreciated.
