Description

Or, as they say in Brooklyn, toitles. Captured 3/21/12, at the semi beautiful El Dorado Nature Center in beautiful Long Beach, California. The stoic amphibians, shown floating leisurely on Emerald Lake while sunning themselves on at least three different styles of rafts. The top of the rafts are plywood and/or of a composition that is beyond my ken, that sit on some kind of flotation material I suspect. Either the rafts float along the lake with a plethora of turtles on top or with none aboard. I didn't see a raft with just one of the creatures by itself. No loners here. Fotos #3, 4 and 5 are no where as sharp as I had hoped for. Foto #3 reminds me of Washington crossing the Delaware. Sayonara, thankx for the peek, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

They are so cute...this is a wonderful collage of floating turtles. I imagine those have to be plywood, particle board would swell and fall apart not too long after getting wet. I don't think even plywood will last that long used in this way, but they probably have volunteers making these cute devices for them. That must a an awesome place to visit.

Wow, masses of healthy-looking turtles sunning themselves! Ours are out now, and looking a little worse for over-wintering at the lake bottom. Lots of scummy mossy grunge on their shells, and some look like they have peeling tiles, in contrast to these guys, who look shiny and warm and well-fed! I hope ours get back to normal soon. Long doses of sunlight might help, although how likely they are to get that soon is anyone's guess! Excellent collection of shots, Harry; I only see one that seems a little soft, and the lighting and colour are wonderful in all. Well done!

I like this. Wouldn't it be nice some days to find a cool or maybe a warm place, curl up in your shell and let the world go by? They appear to be very social. Fascinating creatures...well taken and displayed.
