Hi folks!
Some of you wondered about the architecture behind my previous post (the large mosiac in Lund Cathedral). Here's a photo of the front of the cathedral. As can be seen in this photo, the absid is semi-circular from side to side and somewheres about 10 meters across. The roof is also semi-circular, which makes the absid's top/roof 1/4 of a sphere. I hope this geometry is visible in the photo. This geometry makes for some difficult problems of perspective, which are more obvious in this photo than in my previous post. The mosaic thus changes appearance depending on from where in the cathedral it is viewed. My previous post was taken at the top of the stairs, looking about 45 degrees up.
MrGorf asked about my lighting - well, the cathedral's lighting is more correct. From this photo, one can see there are several spot lights located on the tops of the high seats in the chancel, aimed both at the absid back wall and the high altar, but also at the mosiac. There are also the 4 hanging light sets on each side of the chancel whose light does reach up to the mosiac. When this and my previous post were taken, all the lights were turned up to maximum illumination. Due to old wiring and limits on fuses, maximum illumination is only done briefly for certain occasions, so I was quite lucky with the lighting in this and my previous post.
This photo was taken with my old Olympus OM2n film camera in October, 2000.
Enjoy!
