Description
In 1964 Gerry Marsden had a hit with "Ferry cross the Mersey"...'Gerry and the Pacemakers' were big enough stars to have a movie made about them, oddly called "Ferry cross the Mersey".It was never a great movie, but it was a great song, even reaching No6 in the U.S charts in 1965.Of course the film included said song, sung on said ferry. If you watch the clip Click Here
you will see a famous time traveller...right at the beginning three girls turn to face Gerry, the one on the left is Lis Sladen, who went on to appear in Dr Who and her own series The Sahra Jane Adventures.Lis hated the movie and thought, at the time, it would kill her acting career just as it was starting....just goes to show, I suppose.
If you zoom this you may notice a ships wheel on the upper deck. This is only temporary, Mersey Ferries are running a promo for the new Aardman Animations movie 'Pirates in an adventure with Scientists'.....that DOES look like a good movie :-)

This is a great shot of this famous ferry.

Ha! That wheel is sure in the wrong place, but, how to get the pi-rats (pee-rats? pie-rats, er, whatever) to show if they're hiding inside the bridge? So, we do a crazy and put the wheel on the "nose" of the boat! Advertising folks can sure have the oddest solutions. And I assume this was THE Ferry Across The Mersey the song and film were all about. Nice photo - you even got the top of the mast (which all too often is easy to miss!). Were you on another boat or on a dock with a telephoto lens? She seems to be going too fast for a docking! Now I'll have to check your YouTube link. I've just come from there and seen the Hood blown up in the film "Sink the Bismarck". I can need something positive after that experience! (See - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuO4BfnlDY8&feature=related ) Keep up the good work. I've addes a few posts for you and the "gang"! Enjoy! :-)

Nice shot. I've jumped from planes, repelled from a chopper. scaled a mountain, and scuba dove with sharks. the only thing that scared me was the ferry ride. brrrr.
UVDan
Great shot. Can you pay one price and ride the ferry all day. Or is the fare for only one trip across?
neiwil
@UVDan....you pay your fare and can ride back and forth all day between rush hours. The ferry doesn't just cross the river it cruises up and down with commentary of landmarks you pass.

One of the best bands ever to came out of 60's Liverpool and of course who could forget their version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" too. Liz was a real looker in that clip and in her Dr Who days. Cool post Neil.

VERY famous vessel indeed! lol I am not a fan of the film or song LOL But there you go, I often find that VERY popular songs I don't like much.. I really dislike the Beatles! Sorry folks! I prefer the Rolling Stones.....maybe its my Rock side.. BUT Neil, the Ferry IS a great ship, I love this shot AND the ferry itself! Well caught! Rob
