Description

The Bluetit in the box where the eggs are not yet hatched. The Robins were predated today, I spoke too soon! They came to tell me, all agitato, and led me to look. Probably Magpies, but I didn't witness the murder. I'm not sure what they expected me to do about it, but being birds not humans they had soon got over it and came to help me in the Rose garden. So that site, which has been safe for the last two years, is no longer.

Sorry about the robins, this happened in our garden with our blackbird. This time it was a crow who took the eggs. This is a wonderful shot and one for my favs.

Brilliant bird shot, yes sad I know, sometimes nature is cruel, but only to us, to the animals it's a way of life.

Like I always like to quote: Nature, red in tooth and claw. Other than that, stellar POV employed in this pic of the brooding Bluetit. Kind of looks like a fish with a long tail in that position. Did you try communicating with it?

Awesome photo Andrea! I had some predation happening at my place too. I have four little boxes built into a trellis and had not noticed the bottoms had become a bit loose due to wood rot where the screws were. Anyway it appears a crow or magpie got into a nest from underneath it and took two eggs out.

Yeah, sad news, I agree: I saw the robins photo (I'm skipping around, as I usually do), and it's sad to know these things are just part of nature. But this shot is splendid: It's almost as if the bluetit set this up for you, because the textures of all those strands around her, mixed with the textures of her feathers, and the whole swirling mass around her---with her sitting in the middle like something nestled into a hole---makes for a beautiful plush still-life-of-a-shot. You got wonderful details on the feathers; and she looks up as if to acknowledge you as best she can (given that she's quite preoccupied). A beautiful shot, Andrea, and very true to the word 'nestle' (which of course comes from 'nest'). Beautiful work on her part & on yours.

A beautiful capture and maybe the box will protect them so they do not end up like the baby Robins.
