Description
Five of 21 fotos of this unique divider, captured 4/19/09, within pedestrian distance of my recalcitrant residence.
Undeniably ZOOM worthy.
This is the only one of its kind in my city that I'm aware of, and I haven't seen anything like it in neighboring communities.
I had been in the mood for some repetition and shadow pics, so I went out on an early Saturday morning, when traffic is relatively light, to finally shoot this unusual array that I had had my eye on for months. And yes, even with the sparse traffic, I was still risking life and limb just to record this street stuff, although not the first time I've done it, nor the last.

durleybeachbum: Must you be so graphic? But now that I've been duly forewarned, I won't attempt it in your town. But this is nothing compared to my standing out in the middle of a street on a dank foggy morning taking fotos. What I jeopardize for my art.

The shadows are very cool, especially in the bottom 2 shots. I wonder why this unusual barrier was needed here.

I notice that some of the arrows on the road send you straight through this barrier so I guess they are changing the flow of the traffic here. Great shots of this barrier and they are a pretty colour too instead of the usual orange.

Hmm, looks like a row of plastic bats standing at attention; I've seen some things like that around here, mostly in construction areas or heavily-trafficked areas downtown. Excellent capture of the uprights and their shadows, and I love the one showing the curve! Great work, Harry!

I like the exchange between you & Andrea, lol. Yes, it's very apparent from your gallery what you go through for your shots---standing in fog where cars are anywhere near is a risk. As is standing in this street, even if it's early. Lessons to all photographers---this is what it takes! Really fascinating captures, I've never seen dividers like this anywhere I've been, and you got the bold bright yellows and whites with stunning clarity. But also, the surrounding is so fascinating! It goes into a little archway---to a LAW center of all things (it looks like the entry to a park), and a Bail Bonds & Auto Pawn place, which looks like a little cottage. Southern California is so completely different from where I live, I can't get over it. But you also have your signature study of shadow---beautifully shown here---and the natural curves that these things take---also shown beautifully. And that signature light you so often get in your early day shots. Lots of beautiful light, lots of fascinating textures & lines, and bold beautiful dividers to boot. Really love this montage. Well I think I've shared this before, but in case I haven't: You're speaking of the risks of taking pictures. This is a famous shot, and of course much more extreme, but I always pull it out when these discussions ensue. Not to make light of what we city photographers go through, but rather to make the more general point that photographers really get themselves into terrible places to get the right shots. This is James Nachtway in a famous shot; and it pretty much makes the point in its fullest. The shot is here.
