Description
Years back, and old yogini (a female yogi) spoke to me of Love. She didn't mean 'romantic' love, but love of all people, of animals and plants...of all life, in other words. She said: "I've walked my land all my life" (India), "and learned that the heart has 2 chambers where nothing else dwells but Love. Those two chambers are made of Silk and Fire. Hence: The Silk and the Passion of Love. The Silk," she said, "is where all your Compassion rests. The Fire is where all your passion rests. Together, they make a Shrine. And when you sit in that shrine, there's no tomorrow, no yesterday: just Love. Nothing else is needed there: In that place, love burns forever..."
When I met Lucinda on RR, everyone said, "she's such a loving soul," "she makes such loving art". I discovered those truths quickly, they didn't take much time... I've never been able to describe what makes her work 'loving': It just is. An abandoned monastery shines in her hands. Trees jump off the page as if made of inner flames. Children are pure and wonder-filled. Her paintings and drawings---in addition to being skilled and so beautiful---have the most gentle love in them. Ditto her kaleidoscopes, her abstracts, etc, etc... But she also leaves some of the most loving comments on the site. She engages with you so caringly and on so many levels. I've joked with her that she must stay up till dawn to write those comments...And in her gallery, even when she's overworked or people in her life are ill, she makes time to remember someone's birthday, someone's illness, special occasions, etc. That's dear...It's why I couldn't let my 'pre' dedi stand, from last week. She's too dear to let outages keep me from posting the longer one. Finally, she's told us (in her gallery) of the sick ones in her life. All I can say is, for someone as dear as Lucinda you want to send her and her loved-ones everything from the center of your heart. You want it to shower on her and her family. The beautiful dedis she received from many of you last week prove that. And so I add my own... Lucinda, I am so grateful for the love you give here, and for your humane and so-loving art. You've been a light for many, and if there were a wand I could wave to bring healing to everyone in your life, I'd do it. I send all my love and gratitude to you, and may heaven shine light on you and your loved ones always, and showers of blessings be your companions forever...

Mark, this is one of the most beautiful dedications I have ever been privileged to see my friend. Your description of Lucinda is so right on as she is one of the most kind and caring people I've ever known. Your description of her kind soul was both beautiful and moving. The thoughts on love the Yogini shared with you were simply brilliant and has given me a whole new perspective on it. When you combine those eloquent thoughts with You're stunning image it makes for a perfect dedication. Lucinda and her sister Leslie are always in my thoughts and prayers

Wow, shades of Stanley Kubrick! Rotate these images ninety degrees clockwise and you have scenes very similar to those of the movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Plus poignant words to go along with these stellar, stark and stunning works.

This is a very beautiful dedication to Lucinda, the colours are so special and vibrant and the textures add a dimension all their own. It reminds me of some beautiful silk that my daughter wears these days and the circle at the bottom says that we are all drawn into Lucinda's circle of love. Very beautiful work.

The tiny dots of white ... baby orbs ... near the top look like drops of water that come down, down, down, to join together as a glorious, shining drop. An endless falling of water, dropping and dripping, tiny bits that make up the whole. A stunning piece.

Mark, my dear friend, this is beauty and light, wisdom and love, and it gave me great comfort on a troubled day. I read the yogini's words over and over, and gathered them deeply into my soul. Her words paint wonderful images and you have captured them perfectly in your art. Your images not only visualize silk and fire, but also the particular aspects of silk and fire that symbolize compassion and passion. The cool softness of silk against the skin, like the cool, calming presence of compassion on a hurt soul, the energy and dancing motion of fire, like the passion within, that fuels us and brings our souls alive. And through it all, light! Light shining in the darkness, illuminating the beauty and blessing the world. The colors and shades, highlights and shadows, and motion and patterns of your images, are so beautiful. To see your image, and read the words of the yogini, is just perfect! Thank you, Mark, for this beautiful and caring gift, for your good wishes for my family, and for your kind words. This is beautiful! I love it!
