Description

Captured 6/10/12, at the beautiful Cerritos Towne Center, located in beautiful Cerritos, California. Utterly ZOOM worthy. Returned to the site yesterday mainly to retake some earlier shots that I wasn't satisfied with, particularly in the area of composition. After a few attempts at a closely centered photo, I finally hit pay dirt with this one. Pozegnanie, thankx for the peek, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Nice shot. Terribly immature of me but I really want to walk, hopscotch-style, right straight up to the fountain.

Nice composition of this beautiful building. That center portion makes me think of the old Capitol Records building.

a real good pov and the texture on the ground leads you into the shot for the building

I like that most of your viewers feel as I do about this powerful frontal piece. I understand going back to a locale to get a better composition: Though I've only photographed for 2.5 years, I drew architecture for years, and capturing a building face-on is one of the most difficult challenges I had. Even harder with the camera, because you can't draw over every detail with pencil or pen. This is a classic example of straight facade-capture: It's symmetric (symmetry being a real tyrant for many photographers), you're at an angle that makes the building loom above us even though it's more boxy than tall, you shot from the fountain (and what a fascinating structure---I love Jodie's comment) which gave us only the tops of the roadway, making the building float above. And the building is centered purely (can't believe how everything else lines up so well in your shot)...a 'classbook' example of head-on facade capture. I stay away from frontal captures most of the time, because they elude me and my camera. Shots like this show why they're possible, and ultimately powerful. Lot of fun to see how many views you can get from one place, too. (Love that fountain!)
