Description

The Point Wilson lighthouse at Fort Worden (foreground) sits across Admiralty Inlet from the Admiralty Head light at Fort Casey. Distance across water is deceptive. Even though you can easily see the white Admiralty Head lighthouse against the dark green trees, it's about three and a half miles away.

Great shot, Tara - in addition to the lighthouse, you've provided classic windswept trees & coastal haze. We're going on a trip next week all the way up the Oregon coast (from the California border to Cannon Beach) & though I'm pretty familiar with most of it, I haven't actually been inside any of the lighthouses. Is there one in particular that you can recommend visiting?

Nice shot Tara. Lighthouses have always been a fav. of mine. Not many where I live.... Looks like you have a beauty up north. Maybe its time for the New England coast...... wait, I hate the cold. lol. Anyways, great pic.

A beautiful lighthouse capture and the distance really is deceptive.

a gentle mysterious capture, very much what I would associate with that part of the country. The light is gentle and dark, the lighthouse and its two accompanying little 'houses' on each side make perfect counterpoint, and your composition makes it seem almost miniature when in fact it's not at all, an effect I find delightful. The background is awash in coppery gray mists, with the hills & trees faded into a quiet painting. Very delicate, and it draws us in & past...a kind of 'vast' vista back there...

Oh, how peaceful looking - a wonderful shot, Tara! It's amazing how deceptive distances can be. It looks like just an easy swim across to the other lighthouse.
