Description

Duxford Flying Legends 2009, it may have rained but who cared? I'd seen Spitfires in museums, I'd seen them as gate guardians on a number of airfields, I'd seen The Battle of Briton at least a dozen times. However, standing not 20 feet from this line-up, knowing they could all roar into life and take to the sky, it was like seeing a Spitfire for the first time...after this, I went along taking pictures of each one and it was about this time the rain finally stopped.By the time we made our way back to 'The Pink Lady' B-17 in the background, the sun was trying to shine and the announcement came over the P.A "pilots to report to the briefing room"...the show would go on....and what a show!! 1 Hurricane, 8 assorted Spitfires, 1 B-17 and a B-25...not your average photo opportunity, but somebody at Duxford knows how to 'set 'em up'...

Hell mate what a line up of Spitfires and a Hurricane nearest if i'm not mistaken. What it would have been to hear these start up one by one. Again you've done a fantastic job on the graininess of this photo. Rosity image of the day I reckon :)

Neil, do you have a time machine? How did you get back to 1944? Sheesh! This is getting better and better. Using the black/white with film grain really gets rid of the rainy weather and gives this a 1940s look. Great job. And, you lucky fellow - to see this armada of historical planes take off and fly about for photos. It must have been one h**l of a racket. Anyone tape the sounds? Could make a CD of it and sell at these gatherings (not to mention DVDs of the fly-overs). That would be a nice source of extra income! As I said earlier, is this the RAF after all the budget cutting (to the wrath of all the collectors)? I wonder what it would be like pitting a modern jet and a Sipfire against each other? The Spitfire's slower, but has a far tighter turning radius. And doesn't have a HOT tail for heat seeking missiles to home in on. Made of wood, little or no radar profile. And can maneuver more tightly. It just may be more deadly to the jet than the jet to the Spitfire. Something to think about. :) Keep up the good work! :-)

Yep mate, I agree with all the above.. You've got a stunner here, well done.. And like you said, the Rain crawled back behind its clouds by the time showtime came.. Those words ' Pilots report...', send tingles down your spine! Well done mate! Rob
