Description

This is the iron grate under the light at the Westport, Washington lighthouse. They could have just as easily used something utilitarian and plain, but when the Grays Harbor Lighthouse was built in 1898, fancy architectural detail was still the norm.

Beautiful capture! Those were times when beauty had to accompany the utility, and workers and craftsmen were proud of their work and gave the best of themselves.

We mourn the loss, and our descendants will in the end only read about such beauty in books, or whatever supercedes those. Beautifully seen.

They certainly were the folk that gave all their structures an elegant beauty. Lovely shot Tara.

This is gorgeous and rich and so completely exciting. As Frank Herbert might say: details within details! I love the light and the color and the texture. I wish we still did stuff like this today! Maybe we'll return to actual craftsmanship, once we've gotten bored with...well...cookie-cutter blandness. What a marvel of an image and yeah, so well seen!

Well seen & captured, Tara - you have a great eye for these interesting architectural details that most others wouldn't take the time to notice...

I can't figure out the angle or what I'm seeing, but I don't care. The art work here is what counts! As the others say, I hope artistic design will one day return to architecture. Our modern buildings simply aren't made to last, considering modern building techniques. After which it's tear 'em down. There won't be much left from our generation. Keep up the good work! Perhaps we should have a "Guess what?" competition? :-)

Yes, and I have to say, I wish it was the same now! But we now get square boxes or weird shaped carbuncles that don't fit in with other older archtichture.. This is lovely, well shown Tara! Rob
