Description
A bush of red roses leaning on an old, battered wall of a building, once grand, today engulfed by the tide of time.
We are waiting for the next heat weave, our weathermen have nicknamed Charon, just to be on the anxiety side. In Greek mythology, Charon or Kharon is the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead. A coin to pay Charon for passage was sometimes placed in or on the mouth of a dead person. Some authors say that those who could not pay the fee, or those whose bodies were left unburied, had to wander the shores for one hundred years. Given the state of our economy, we Italians will be probably doomed, together with the Greeks and the Spaniards, to wander along those gloomy shores. I can't say why the Italian weathermen are so sadistic. Coundn't they name this heat weave Venus, Bacchus or some other merrier name?
Thanks for your kind comments.

Great photo, Sandra - you've really brought out the wall texture in this. Wonderful work! Sorry you're having such a problem with the heat. Maybe you need to make another trip to Eugene! ;) It's warming here, but nothing I would call summer yet. You're right - it's a very small world (as I've discovered with at least one other artist here on Rendo). If you ever make it this way again, look us up! It would be nice to meet you face-to-face. :) Hope your heat wave passes soon. ~Robert

Lovely roses and a gorgeous photo, Sandra! The world is going down the tubes, as far as civilization is concerned, it seems. I know of no 'developed' country that isn't in big trouble economically and so many other aspects of life. Well, I look forward to 12-21-2012 to see if there is any future for this planet!
