Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Very cute little fellow. Wonderful capture Andrea. We have a grey squirrel that lives in a big tree just behind our house on the river bank. We had to change the bird feeder to one that he can't raid as he was eating so much of the bird's food.

A little beauty Andrea and super bark textures.

Well done You! A rare chance taken with aplomb. Some of the "Big Lens" cameras cannot turn their shutter off. It is a mechanical operation inside it you hear. That sound was recorded and added to electronic cameras so people know it has fired. So another Tizzy victory!

He's a little cutie; great shot!

Hoards of idiots that have not heard of most top end cameras silent shutter feature, Hell my 40D has two options. I use it often when capturing skittish animals. I remember as a kid seeing these in Southwark park and the surrounding areas, then all of a sudden they all turned grey. As a child I thought they were just getting old. Now as a discerning adult, it grieves me to know they are killing off our reds. Much like the stupid introduction of Harmoia Axyridis. They just thought about the monetary gains, and didn't see the dangers. What next? Last week I was reading a report that a Mantid (Praying Mantis) had been seen and photographed in a field in Berkshire. Although I'd love the opportunity of shooting these remarkable predators, imagine the damage to the bio-diversity of our natives. Lets hope he/she was a one off escapee!

I've never seen one this close and only seen a very few photos of them at all. Our greys and a few other species are so much different. Well done.

What a treat to see this! So different from ours. My camera is set on "mute."

I wish I had seen him/her, so hard to find them!!

Argggg, I am one of the hoard Ronnie is speaking of above. This has caused me to go through every menu item on my camera and every subject in my owner's manual. I can't find any way to turn the "click" off. So, I've now turned it over to Tara to see what she can find. Sheesh...it has never been a problem...yet. Thanks for the challenge;-) And the "red" is a cutie.

What a adorable shot. Awesome timing to catch him having lunch. Thanks for sharing this rare beauty.

WONDEFUL CAPTURE!

I read that people are encouraged to shoot the gray squirrels there. It's a shame the grays have overtaken these beautiful red squirrels.
goodoleboy
What's this? I didn't know there were squirrels anywhere near the UK! And the greys is a term usually reserved for certain extraterrestrial visitors. But I digress, Cool capture of the creature, actually a member of the rodent family, contrasted against the pole and fir tree, Andrea. I don't know about other cameras, but I can mute the shutter click on mine.

Never saw a red squirrel as of now read about them but never seen a pic of one what a sweet find and pic Hugs Susan~

Great captured!! Sad these are treatened by their American cousins...In Denmark the red squirrel are still very common because the grey hasn't arrived here. And in 2006 the Red Squirrel became Denmarks national animal. :o)
danapommet
S/he is a cute little bugger and very small. It is amazing how they manage to get into position to eat from a bird feader of any design. :o)

Aww - what a cutie. I saw a black one last week in the hearth of the town on a small meadow. Thanks for sharing that great shot.
