Description

My long weekend with Rob, at Duxford and Waddington left me with some extra time on my hands, so I took a trip over to ‘The Plant’. Walking among the quiet workshops it occurred to me if I have time for a visit, I have time to build. I phoned around the staff, they were all willing but I couldn't get hold of the most important member of the team. My test pilot ‘Tailspin’ has moved to France, I phoned him and he hung up, I text him with no reply, I E-mailed....nothing. Undaunted I text again, and got a reply, "sod off, I've retired", this was not good. I had to talk to him one on one, now normally I would jump into whatever was at hand but after all this time everything has been shipped to ShareCG for storage. Fortunately a quick recce turned up enough parts to build a Mk II Lysander and I was back in business. Landing at the back of Tailspins cottage I walked over and knocked on the door, it swung open and I found myself face to face with an old friend..... a Purdey double barreled shotgun which I'd given to Tailspin for his Birthday. "What the hell do you want" ? Tailspin enquired, (charming as ever )." I need you to come back to ‘The Plant’, I can’t do this without you" I replied. I was led into the sitting room and offered a glass of wine, "didn't you get my message ? I’ve retired” "I'll double your salary” I offered, “I don't need money, I've just published my Biography ( 'The Man Angels Fear', published by M Orons, available at all good retailers) and have more money than I will ever need" was his response. I decided to try a different approach, “What's that" ? I asked pointing behind him, as he turned I picked up the wine bottle and ‘slugged’ him. I'm not entirely sure if this changed his mind, but he did not protest as I 'assisted' him to the plane. Concussion is a wonderful thing, when Tailspin awoke his memory was sketchy at best, I assured him we were just returning from a drunken weekend in France, which explained his banging headache. I've loaned him the Lysander for the day and he's happy again, ‘The Plant’ is back up and running and all is as it should be....for now at least. The Lysander was a 'quickie, to see if I remember how....I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out and it will be available in a couple of days, when the paintshop has finished with it. The next project is already underway and is.....ambitious, "in keeping with tradition"...will post a clearer picture of this when it's ready for upload. Tomorrow, my first 'little'(Z) something from Waddington :-)

Oh my! He's retired in France, has he? Any sign of women in his place? Or is it the wine? Or,.... hmmm... must be something else, but what? Looks like you'll have to make another clandestine visit to his French hide-away. Now, trusting this amiable fellow with a double barrel shot gun... er, well, he's had access to far worse weaponry, but less personal. Glad you could get the neccessary parts out of storage. Seems ShareCG have less of an atitude problem than Tailspin. The important thing is - he's happy for the time being. Just don't let him abscond with the Lysander to France! You may never see it again if he gets into clandestine missions! I'll check with M Orons publishers if his tale of a book is for real, or another moron tale! My, Neil, I see you're back in old form again, with 3D and fun stories! I really got a giggle out of this! And I'm looking foreward to the sequel! Keep up the good work! :-)

I have always loved the Lysander and could never figure out why they did not flood the civilian market with them. They would have wiped the clouds with those little Cessnas and Beechcraft Bonanzas. I loved your story and it is nice to see the Lysander. Great job.

Heh Heh, your own SOE mission was a success so it seems. At least Tailspin could console himself with the wine on the trip back (or was he just whining?) Excellent model Neil, looking forward to seeing this at SCG too!
