Description

One of many varieties of the species, captured 7/12/12, early morning, not too far from my archaic abode. ZOOM is an absolute must. Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. It is quite large, containing several hundred species that are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are often noted for their showy flowers and are commonly known as hibiscus, sorrel, and flor de Jamaica, or less widely known as rosemallow. The genus includes both annual and perennial herbaceous plants, as well as woody shrubs and small trees. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia. A stunning capture of this beautiful Hibiscus and it has a wonderful centrepiece which you have captured so clearly. Marvellous detail. I wish I could grow these down here but the frost gets them.

I love these, they're so big and in-your-face, and they have that wonderful antenna-like stamen structure...excellent capture, Harry, you got those sort of papery petals perfectly!

Agree with the above, denise on the papery quality of the petals, andrea on the perfect angle (to capture the stamens, etc), and others' response to the whole. I have seen few flowers with stamens like this---or perhaps I didn't look closely enough. It's enough reason to take the picture, to begin with. But you have a sense of 'minimalism' in some of your shots which stops me in my tracks: The angle is just right, not too much yet enough to let the stamens show off; the light is total, giving the white of the flower its full day in court but not so great that it in any way 'bleaches' the flower; the background is richly green (as contrast); and you got those tads of pink on the petals---subtle but just right. Good work with your camera, good work with your postwork. A beautiful solo shot, and these captures are making me want to see flowers more. (I'm very bad at looking at flowers.) Beautiful flower work once more.
