Description

I hate war... But I went. I wasn't going to post this, rather it was something I was working on for myself. But when I got up this morning I saw on the news a story about a freakin' kid who shot 50 people in a movie theater... who the hell have we become? Years ago I found this poem, a prayer really and it always helps me to remember to have compassion for those around us... A Corpsman's Prayer Grant me, oh Lord, for the coming events; Enough knowledge to cope and some plain common sense. Be at our side on those nightly patrols; And be merciful judging our vulnerable souls. Make my hands steady and as sure as a rock; when the others go down with a wound or in shock. Let me be close, when they bleed in the mud; With a tourniquet handy to save precious blood. Here in the jungle, the enemy near; Even the corpsman can't offer much lightness and cheer. Just help me, oh Lord, to save lives when I can; Because even out there is merit in man. If It's Your will, make casualties light; And don't let any die in the murderous night. These are my friends I'm trying to save; They are frightened at times, but You know they are brave. Let me not fail when they need so much; But to help me serve with a compassionate touch. Lord, I'm no hero -- my job is to heal; And I want You to know Just how helpless I feel. Bring us back safely to camp with dawn; For too many of us are already gone. Lord bless my friends If that's part of your plan; And go with us tonight, when we go out again. Author Unknown (I quit using the word "corpsman" a while back, too many thought it was corpse-man... actually it is pronounced Core-man... so, Medic will suffice. a friend once said to me "hell man, we were all medics". Great looking render and very relevant words in light of the horrific events at that cinema. Love the style of this image and it compliments the scene so well.

No one could have approached this and addressed it any more eloquently and powerfully than you have, my friend. Sometimes when I hear about stuff like this, tragedies, horrors, insane random lunatic acts, I think about a million good, anonymous people at any given moment performing a nice act for somebody we'll never know about. Nah, it doesn't carry the same impact, but maybe somehow it helps balance the scales, you know? Tremendous work, buddy. Very, very well done.

Colorado has been through enough. :( Seth, this is so beyond words. I mean I have some but they are just inadequate. That poem is so perfect for this... Mostly, I have to say, thank you for your service. Even though I am Canadian, I know a hero when I see one. And I know you and any other person who's fulfilled this duty will balk at the word, but trust me, it's what you all are.

My heart is out for you and everybody who has experienced war... that is, short of those who profit. I don't know what we have become exactly. It's not something that I "want" to leave to my grand-children but I will do my best to leave them with the experiences to help handle it. That's about all I can do.

Not sure what all to say, Seth. First off this is a powerful image with great words to accompany it, the grainy FX help to intensify the grittyness of the subject. Deeply moving imagery. The senseless attack in Aurora goes beyond the pale, even though the perp survived there's bever going to be anyway to understand his heinous act. Nothing could justify his rampant slaughtering of innocent people.

I heard about what happened this morning and I am so sickened and saddened by it. What have we come to that we need to screen for guns at movies? It is unreal those who would do this to unsuspecting and innocent people. The poem speaks so loudly as does the image with the grim and gritty effects. Thank you.

This is an amazing image and words Seth - so very well done, as only you can. I'm glad you decided to post it, but not glad for the reason you did. Wars and rumors of wars. They never end and are fed by those who stand to profit from them. It is a credit to the men and women who do go off and fight to save the lives of their 'brothers in arms'. This is a valiant image to honor them. I live about 7 miles from the theatre were this happened. I saw the breaking news on it about 3 am this morning and was just speechless/horrified. I don't go to Aurora any more than necessary. In spite of it's lovely name, a lot of crime happens there. What completely disgusted me though was as I read down through the article, they felt they had to say that the attack was not related to al Qaida or Islamic terrorist activity. So happy to know that every nutter who goes off the deep end isn't an 'Islamic terrorist'. Beneath that was another story of 3 homeless men being stabbed in LA as they slept. To say we live in a f'kd up world is an understatement.

Awesome piece of work Amen Brother, I saw enough Blood, Violence and Death by the time I was 20 to last me a Lifetime, War is Not a Game. The type of Violence perpetrated in Aurora CO early this morning is a symptom of a Society which has Desensitized people to acts of violence. One that Glorifies aggression and War, there is nothing Glorious about Killing another Human, it should Haunt you the rest of your life, it does me. Peace

Very nice. Love the grainy effects. War is horrible and people can be too. I know everyone thinks that people are getting worse...I sometimes wonder haven't we always been the same, but now just get to be bombarded with more murder, sex, wrecks, lies....that's all that is on the news. That's all we see....from every part of the world....sure in the past we read about it or saw some blurb on a recap, but we didn't always have the film, phones, video cameras that we do now...so more access=more horrors being brought to light.
