Description
In the city centre one should be safe enough, since it's mostly a 'pedestrians only' area. Things aren't so simple, however! That cyclist didn't pass behind the woman with the dog, but when she started crossing, pedalled faster in order to cut across in front of her. What a gentleman! Moreover, the curious installation made of three poles isn't usually there, and it created a dangerous obstacle. Some genius at the Townhall decided to support multiculturalism by financing and installing that work. It unites a typical group of 'bricole' (Venetian name of the poles used both to signal low floors in the canals and the lagoon, and landing places) painted by some immigrants with 'African' colours. An attached notice explained the idea to the populace. Nothing to say about cultural experiments. I only wonder how much it cost, and whether a location in one of the many small squares and large pavement areas wasn't a better idea. In fact, this downtown street is one of the few with mixed traffic: not only cyclists, but also residents' cars , and suppliers' vans.
Thank you for your kind comments.

very colorful poles, indeed. Thanks for the explanation !

Cool capture and great narrative It's a shame that the bicyclist was so rude to the lady

Great capture Sandra, and as always I enjoyed you're thoughts behind it. Isn't it funny how things can often work together to make matters worse when combined with someone who is careless. Often times people on bikes feel like the laws of the road don't apply to them, and actually become more of a mencace than the autos. Back in the good old days this man would have came to a stop for the lady and her dog as a sign of kindness and respect. (also if he hadn't a true Gentleman would have yanked him off that bike and spoke to him about respect)

As an artist, I can not understand the colossal works of artists sculteurs or more generally well regarded in court: it seems to me that in Europe there are circles where some artists are included, and we only speak them! I share your comments relevant to me ... otherwise Nantes, there is the same style ... but street bikes are prohibited on pedestrian zones!

I like your pic Sandra. They do stupid things like that here in the UK too.
Radar_rad-dude
Yoiks! It does seem like stupidity on the part of the genius at Townhall to place this artwork in the worst possible place! Maybe he/she should be hanging from this art(?) as a lesson to other Townhall genius's to show a little more respect for the people that have to live in the city! A fine capture, Sandra! You always find the most interesting scenes and beautiful natural settings in your photos! Much appreciated by me!

If you really want to criticise this 'little incident', then you should also mention, that she is just as much guilty of 'jay-walking' - and there are even more cyclists in the BG, about to follow suit ... personally I think, it should be a little give and take, from both sides with a bit of caution ;) - there is plenty of room for all! Quote by George Carlin: so live & let live, my motto ... BTW those colourful bollards or 'bricole' seem to be out of place I agree, food for thought ... BB

Very beautiful image image Sandra, marvelous colors, loved it a lot!

A very colorful image with a "moment in time captured" feeling to it. No comment on the political or social implications here, as I don't have enough info to comment intelligently...

beautiful, love the colors and lighting excellent work

Great capture those poles look like giant crayons to me.. And how rude of the cyclist to cut in front of the lady and her dog. Maybe it those "crayons" weren't there he could have been over a lot further and it wouldn't have looked as bad..

It is a very interesting photo, and I might add a delightful colourful place to live by what I can see here. Some people were born without any good manners I think, but luckily neither dog or lady got hurt. Those strange structures do seem to be a bit hazardous, how silly to put them there. Excellent photography as always, love this. hugs Jane xx
