Description

P-51D Mustang in RAF markings, owned & operated by Vintage Wings of Canada. Taken at the CWH 40th Anniversay airshow back in mid-June. Must admit, until I saw this plane, Mustangs didn't generate a whole lot of enthusiasm with me. Maybe it was the prevalence of bare-metal examples? Anyway, this one really caught my eye. A further admission: the paint scheme initially confused me - it took a moment or two to realize it wasn't a Spitfire! Time to get my eyes checked... Anyway, personal preference aside, there is no denying the performance & capabilities of the P-51D. Definitely one of the best piston fighters ever! Rather ironic it got nicknamed the "Cadillac", seeing as the powerplant was designed by Rolls-Royce! :)

Yeah, the white stripe is a bit misleading. Neat capture!
