Description

Follow-up to my last two postings... Diablo Lake behind the 389 foot tall Diablo Dam on the Skagit River in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. .................................................. Glacial flour or rock flour, consists of fine-grained, silt-sized particles of rock, generated by mechanical grinding of bedrock by glacial erosion. Because the material is very small, it becomes suspended in river water making the water appear cloudy, which is sometimes known as glacial milk. When the sediments enter a river, it turns the river's color gray, light brown, iridescent blue-green, or milky white. If the river flows into a glacial lake, the lake may appear TURQUOISE in color as a result:) Bill P.S. Zoom worthy.

I like the picture and when you zoom you can see the electric line right above the water. Neat.

Great shot! You got the green of the water just right. SUCH an odd color, but that's really what it's like! I could hardly believe it. Good memories ... hot day, nice bikers, gorgeous view, photography, and a dog pulling at the leash with every shutter click. LOL!

What a view, Bill, something I have never seen before. I like the branches in the top corners, framing the image. Clive

Excellent shot Bill, and thanks for the explanation, I always assumed it was copper levels in the water that mad it this colour.

"I see trees of green, green rivers too". I've never seen anything like this before Bill and it's blown me away. If it's ok with you i'd like to use this as my desktop wallpaper. Magnificent!

This is stunning! I love the names that particular things have, and in this case, glacial flour, which makes me think of a form of flour that is used in the very slow baking of bread. I suspect there MIGHT be a story in there. I love the bird's eye POV here and the sense of color is astonishingly crisp. This is really brilliant.
