Description

Blender3D I had almost forgotten about this one. A couple years ago, before giving up on Blender, I saw an image in a magazine of an old archway in fog. I wondered if I could create something similar, not knowing how to do it. I started the image with a single vertex in mirror mode. Clicking and moving slightly to make the outline of half of a half of a single arch, watching the mirrored half show up as I went. You'll get a good laugh out of this, but, I then filled the hollow outline with faces, then extruded to get half an archway. I then copied that half, flipped it around horizontally, and merged the two together to get a full arch. I stuck a couple more copies together and moved them apart, then laid one down (far left). I decided to make a very large pot, so, using a single vertex and mirror, made the outline of half a pot, then spun it to create the full 3D pot, then resized and laid it beside the arch. Several days later, I saw a great image with rolling clouds over a mountain. So, how the heck do you do mountains and clouds? I found an add on at that time, which had instant landscapes which you could edit, volumetric clouds, vines and several other things I simply cannot remember at the moment. After a couple hours, I had the landscape look I wanted. I then played with the clouds and was amazed with what you could do. I liked the image, which I had only started to see if I could make an arch. A week later, I saw a photograph of a fog covered field. Fog? How could you do fog in an image. I thought about that for a while, then my wife Sasha came in to see what I was doing. I told her what I wanted to do and… she said, "Just make more clouds, thin them out, and pull them down through the ground until they just stick up a little." She then turned and walked off, while I picked myself up off the floor! Yes, that's what I did, and I really liked the result. I wanted the arches to look ancient, and of course, they looked very new, so, I went in and deleted and distorted LOTS of vertices. Next, I added the Ivy vines to the ground and to the arches. They looked out of place, so, I simply deleted the leaves, leaving what looks to be dead vines. I then added lighting and a few stars and will perhaps use this image in one of my upcoming novels :) Thanks so much for taking a look.
