Description

Who can ever forget Dustin Hoffmann in the movie role of 'Papillon'? Every time I see this beautiful Butterfly, I am being reminded of it ... and when I am very lucky I can spot the occasional 'Dunk Island Butterfly' (papilio ulysses) dancing in midair or around the highest tree on our property and this particular one, just had to have a little rest in our driveway ;) don't you just love Spring? (BTW we are 110m above sea-level on 3 acres, this may have something to do with it?) *** It is unusual to find them here, as they are inhabitants of Dunk Island on our world famous Great Barrier Reef, which is about 1,000 kms away from here! Dunk Island lies 4 km off the Australian East Coast, opposite the town of Mission Beach. The island forms part of the Family Islands National Park and is in the larger Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Cheers *BB* aka Brigitte PS 'The further adventures of Papillon' - a book by Henri Charriere.

My but its a pretty one! Excellent capture. He's probably come in from Dunk Island on vacation. Heard you had three acres. Hmmm, blondeblurr's butterfly resort? Just a thought. Right off the top of my head.

That aqua-color is amazing, Brigitte. What a superb find. such surprise it must be to see it i.r.l. Also the surrounding by stones are looking beautiful. I guess this butterfly is a big one, it looks like being so. Thank you for sharing this lucky find, dear friend.

I remember Steve Mcqueen an Dustin Hoffman in Papillon, but the film fails to capture the horror and beauty of the book .... as almost always happens with books and films. I was shocked when I read the book, is very crude, especially in the descriptions of the way of living of the prisoners. This beautiful butterfly is really awesome. I love it. I love the peebles of your driveway, too. Here whe use volcanic stone, black or brown.

A lovely clear capture of this beautiful butterfly and how lovely to have him visit you on his adventures. It is amazing how far he has come. Maybe he will come across to visit us though so far I haven't heard of any making it this far south though we do get the Monarch butterflies and they come great distances.
