Description
Shadwell Basin was built in 1828 and was part of a group of docks known as the London Docks - this is the only part of London docks which has survived redevelopement. It was once used for access to the River Thames for the transportation of cargo to the Wapping warehouses which were close by.
I remember first stumbling across this place during a walk towards Canary Wharf - not only is it a serene location but the open space certainly contrasts against the surrounding maze of streets, I was pleasantly surprised!
