Description

This was taken at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. There are about 40,000 basalt columns here, so this represents just a portion of the whole. It's a fantastic place. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant's_Causeway Thanks for viewing and for previous comments and favs.

Clarity, detail and texture unsurpassed in this shot of the awesome Basalt Columns, with the gentleman at the bottom for size relation. It almost looks artificial as far repetition goes.

That's magnificent Lucinda. Nature always seems to dwarf any of mankind's engineering and architectural achievements. Both in grandeur and longevity. I so very rarely use the word, but, awesome. I'm glad you provided the link, I believe my class was told the Benandonner ledgend way back in early grade school - when the Earth was flat. We all thought it was very funny that Benandonner would be so fooled by MacCool's ruse.

A super capture of this amazing place. The detail in the rocks is so uniform it almost looks man made.

What a wonderful capture Lucinda, and oddly enough a friend of mine was sharing some photos with me of her trip to Ireland. This is such a marvelous pov you chose, and those columns do take your breath away. Thanks so much for taking the time to provide the link, I'll go read more on them now.

Ooh, imagine all of the interesting stories that basalt could tell...it's quite dramatic! One doesn't always think of geology as being rich in drama, and yet...you've got basalt...the drama queens of the rock world and I love this image. Those columns are amazingly intricate and wonderfully details. I love your use of light and shadow in this and the sense of scale is amazing! This is brilliant!
