Description
Dirt Clod Wars Of 77 (For mikeerson) This dedication is for my friend Mike Anderson (mikeerson) who is one of my favorite artists in the gallery. Mike has an incredible sense of humor, along with a big heart. He uses this gift to make people feel better by making them laugh. Mike's gallery is fantastic, and filled with some of the most thought provoking works out there. He is able to take almost any dramatic situation and find a light hearted way to look at it. He is also all about helping other people, as I personally can attest to. Mike shared this story with me from when he was a boy, and I wanted to share it with my friends. His memory of this time is crystal clear, and he even provided me with a sketch of the scene in his memory. I hope you enjoy his story, and may God watch over all of you who are going through difficult times.
The year was 1977, and the place was a small lot across from the apartment from where Mike lived. This was the location for one of the most epic battles of modern times. Mike waited patiently for his best friend Bert to finish lunch so they could begin. Soon Bert came running from his home, past his Father's truck. He had with him an armload of G.I. Joe's, ready to face off against Mike. Both combatants knew the rules, and took time to carefully place their forces on top of the large rock formation in the lot. Next they prepared their arsenals by going around the lot pulling up (Dirt Clods) from the ground. At last the battle began, and in almost no time at all there were casualties on both sides. Bert sensed danger, as his forces didn't seem up for the fight on this day. He looked on in horror as his troops were literally falling like dolls in front of him. All of this was happening despite his faithful dog (Nome) cheering him on with every throw. Mike was now sensing victory was near, and with a strategically placed shot sent the last of Bert's troops to meet his maker. Bert gasped in shock as Mike raised his arms in victory. Still the outcome should have been clear from the start as Mike was wearing his lucky #7 Craig Morton jersey on this day. Just like his hero, Mike's aim was true, and he had won the big game. Hope you enjoyed Mike's story, and my dedication for him.
Dave

first i would like to tell ya something amigo Dave-i wish i could comment more often on one of your works, but you dont find the time to make more renders because you comment on almost all the galleries there is.when i come to a gallery dave was there..ghehehe,you leave your fine and well educated "foorprints"all over the community. thank you for all the support you gave me over the years. on my over 3000 uploads i guess it would be difficult to find one you have not commented on. and always when you come up with a work it is a well thought of scenery with mucho, mucho feelings involved. very nice dedication to a fine person and artist.

Almost 2 years since you last posted, but I don't think you missed a single image of mine during that entire time. Thank you. And thank you for this great story about one of our most beloved characters. I am glad you gave Mike the more ruffed up look and not the pompadour. Don't make us wait till 2015 before you post again.

Your fans miss you Dave... I had to read all of their comments... they know it's been a while since you posted, but it really shocked me that it's been almost 2 years - ALMOST and almost is like a hand grenade - yeah you're close enough to two years to where we can call it two years. I think I can speak for everyone here, we love you man, you always visit us, I see you in almost every gallery I go to - It's always great to see you and that is why a few months ago when I suggested to you to do this image - it was because when I went to your gallery and saw your last posting date I just about fell off my chair... it was like you were gone and a ghost had left all those comments - it really, really felt weird. You are the only one I know of in the 6 or so years that I've been here that does kid image scenes and it really takes you back when we were all kids - WE ALL NEED THAT from time to time.... We miss your art man. I know when I sent you info on this I messed you up - lol I put a 7 on the shirt and you asked if it was Elway and I said no, it was #7 before #7 - it was the Broncos first #7 that took us to the Superbowl = Craig Morton. Morton had a rocket arm like Elway, but his legs were shot and I've never seen anyones legs as bad as Morton's and I've been watching the games for over 40 years - lol ...anyway, you were the one that pointed the number on the jersey out to me and we talked about it... Morton played in 77 and that's why you have it noted this was back in 77 - but 1977 I was 14 - lol... GI Joe had long retired - lol... I think we decided that 44 was the number to put on the Jersey, Floyd Little... but it doesn't matter, Hollywood screws up times and places all the time. This did turn out Great, it's got your signature all over it - I LOVE IT! ...I always look forward to your comments, and I don't think you've missed an upload since we've known each other... but Dave, it breaks my artistic heart to know you haven't posted all this time - especially when your art has been centered around childhood - I don't think you realize your art, your subject takes your viewers back to when they were kids, even if it's for a minute or two, you do that for all of us - and here's what it does for us, it takes our worries away for that moment and we're kids again. I... WE MISS YOUR ART, Please post at least once a month and if you can do that for 3 months, it will help so many of us feel like kids again - you have that magic. Thanks for the Dedi... It took me back to that special time.... oh, I love how you did the GI Joes - that is just too cool...I just gotta say one more thing... you haven't posted in 2 years and you already have 3 pages of comments - do people miss you man or what? I asked you for the Dedi, thank you, it was an ourstanding job and I plan on sending it to my friend Bert - yeah, I still know him after all these years, we just haven't seen each other in over a decade - so, your art has made all these fans of yours happy and now my friend will know I still think of him through you - You did Great Dave... and it's nice to see you didn't forget how to play in poser - cause if I went two years, I'd be screwed - just as if Bert threw a dirt clod straight up and it came down on top of my head - lol... yeah, that happened a few times IT HURTS - LOL

This is a very interesting story and is something rather new to me. We never (as far as I can recall) had a great big mount of dirt at our disposal while growing up (though I'm told there was a cow pasture in our back yard - behind the broken boat). And I didn't have toy soldiers, I had plastic hockey players. Envision that on our dirt driveway. In spite of Bert's immanent defeat, Nome seems eager to continue the fight. Perhaps he is General Bert's secret weapon launched when conventional forces fail. I'm sure he'd scare the victorious Army of Mike from the battlefield. Then again maybe not. Very impressive rendering Dave. Mike is a wonderful fellow and I'm sure he has been quite moved by your take on his story. Especially all the care you've put into bringing it alive. This must have taken quite some time to put together with all its complexities. The weedy grass everywhere is so well observed (that was a part of my childhood), even growing out of the mound, excellent attention to detail. And, the moving truck in the background, no doubt new people moving in all the time. You get the feeling of a busy and changing neighbourhood full of young and rambunctious families. Sorry I'm a bit late Dave, I didn't catch the ebot for this until this morning. It's great to see you posting again. I hope we'll see more in the not too distant future.

Oh my goodness dear Dave, it is so good to see you posting again, just marvelous, thank you. What an amazing and wonderful dedication for Mike, you put so much thought into this, oh I am loving it so much.
