Description
I've noticed that so many descriptions of planes made by Germany during WW 2 carry the line ..."but it was produced in too small of numbers and too late to be effective."...lucky for the Allied effort. The Henschel Hs 129 was no exception. largely through lessons learned by the Condor Legion ground support tactics used during the Spanish Civil War (effectively using the durable but largely unsuitable HS 123) the Germans adopted the philosophy and to that end came up with the "Panzerknacker" or tank cracker..."safe cracker" as it was named by the troops. It's use is credited for slowing the Russian tank advanced for a time, but too late.
One quick look at this aircraft and a brief read of it's description, including the pilot sitting in a armored "bathtub" behind that drop-down nose, to say nothing of the massive remake of the Pak 40 antitank gun mounted beneath the pilot brings to mind the USAF A-10 Warthog tank buster. Basically like the A-10 this is a flying, heavily armored antitank gun These are generally considered to be the only two fixed wing aircraft dedicated totally to that role. Both are very effective at it too.
Henschel Hs 129: Really nicely executed model by Pedro Caparros available generously for free on sharecg. Textures slightly tweaked, and swapped out prop blur by myself.
Pilots in that (really, really) cramped cockpit commandeered from one of Neil's aircraft. I don't remember which one.

Outstanding..model and render, very fortunate the Germans suffered from 'kid in a candy store syndrome' didn't know which of anything to concentrate on and so never built enough of any.This was a 'beast', always liked this one...you seem to be keeping 'Tailspin's' relatives in full employment, thanks for that...fortunately they're a bit more responsible with heavy ordinance :-)

The Americans had a B-something w/ a cannon in the nose, until later in the 20th, had a cannon pointing sideways, really spooky...;) great pic

The cross section of the aircraft was so narrow that some of the less essential instruments were mounted outside the cockpit on the inner engine nacelles!
