Description

It seems to me that most often in aerial combat, lady luck plays the most important hand, cause it's important who's on top. These three SE5.A's have the upper hand with altitude and hopefully the Joker in the deck, surprise. I suspect, surprise or not, they'll have their hands full dancing with those big D's. Royal Aircraft Factory SE5.A: free from the man down at the plant, Neiwil, at sharecg in one of 2011's Christmas packages...if I told you which one, what fun would that be? I tried some tricks with modifying the textures and added the rigging (it's there, believe me!) Fokker DR.1 Tri-planes: In the same pack by himself again. Combatants on both sides: Pilot by Neiwil in one of said aeroplanes. Cinema4d6XL,Poser7,Vue6Infinite,PS Cs3

I think you've definitely captured the reality of WW I aerial combat...we think of them as "knights of the sky" and the last flowering of medieval chivalry...and there was some of that...but most often, they were simply soldiers doing what soldiers have had to do for millenia...

Another fantastic WWI piece Bill, a very real cloud base here and excellent DOF.. 'Bard' makes a good point, when interviewed one pilot was told of the 'knights of olde' line, he laughed and explained it's some strange 'joust' when, from the position you've illustrated, the tactic was to dive down and draw a bead on the back of the pilots head.If you overshoot you may hit the engine, if you undershoot you get the rudder / tail, and if you get it right...messy!! and not much 'chivalry'....though as in all wars, there were exceptions.....
