Pondering the last post and the comments about the reality of aerial combat, I inevitably came to this. Chivalry aside, the Dr.1 victor's low pass is most likely to confirm the kill and see the damage done. Now the reality of the loser's plight...the freezing cold, the hard ground, and his location. The hard, cold facts are now inescapable.
Just on a lark with my new-found alpha plane forests. I find that they are a bit quirky, but messing around gets just the right combination. Some 4 or 5 3-dimensional tree models in the foreground makes them all the more convincing. The result...about a difference of a couple or 3 million polys and a much quicker render time.
Crispy Se.A.5: Free on sharecg By Neiwil as noted in earlier posts in one of his 2011 generous Christmas surprises. Torched and texture tweaked by my own self. (Old habits, Neil.)
Fokker DR.1s: Same, same (but not torched.)
Dr1 pilots: Neiwil same package.
Se.5.A pilot: Apollo Max, totally cool and free online (Google it).
Flight gear: adh3d USAAF pilot kit and helmet and goggles cobbled from somewhere.
Winter trees some time ago from RDNA...great.

Nice one! A different time, different rules.. Same went for areas fought over during WW2, the desert was notable for this.. Air Sea Rescue aircraft were not shot at, that went as a general rule.. Same for boats.. Now Russia.... Well.. Good work mate! Rob

outstanding, as usual....!!

Yeah, trees in the background are a bugbear - I've had many scenes crash because of my attempts to create 3d forests...you've done a nice job integrating the 2d and 3d vegetation, here. Anyway, this pilot ought to be counting his blessings - at least he avoided a very painful and unpleasant demise...this time, anyway...

once again another fantastic work of art. The forest is a dead give away of the season, and the many surprises that this daring Aviator has yet to face ...superb job.

From 'Gott Strafe Angeland' to Strafe Pilot. Should be running...;) great pic.

The scene, forest and atmosphere are awesome. At least he can sit near the burning plane? ;-)

Great scene.

Very convincing trees! a great feeling of depth, these Alpha planes really work..Well I hope 'Biggles' got his bearings before he bellied in :-) This does raise the question, how many had a 'fortunate' escape like this, only to wander into enemy lines.A far worse prospect in the desert of course....but snow bound Europe could be just as inhospitable.... I'd better release some more aircraft....you must be running out by now :-)

Beautiful scene and fantastic realisation!!!
