Description

Ereshkigal has long been a problematic character for me to portray in the Ishtar series. Over the past almost five years I have gone through no less than three attempts to create a character that matches my minds eye vision of this powerful Mesopotamian Goddess. I needed a character that would well match her sister Ishtar, who also went through several incarnations. When I saw Maddelirium's Sakkara I knew my patience had been rewarded. Not only did she have perfect skin tones but finally a set of early middle eastern makeups to match, not to mention a wicked, feline sensuality that well fit my vision of what a beautiful dark creature Ereshkigal could be. I just needed to add some muscle morphs and more definition to enhance the projection of hew raw power. This is what I wrote about Ereshkigal in September 2008 and I cannot find better words to describe her, so I shamelessly repeat them here: Ereshkigal, Ruler of the Underworld, is perhaps the most misunderstood and maligned Mesopotamian Goddess. Because of her role as guardian of the dead, we often think of her as being evil. In fact this is not correct. Ereshkigal was a complex Goddess with many faces. While often hot tempered, impetuous and demanding, like most high ranking Mesopotamian deities, she was also the one who was strictly and absolutely law abiding. She was a tough cookie with a tough job, but she never wavered from it. So although Ereshkigal was never loved by the masses, she was highly respected as the ultimate upholder of justice; she was the essence of absolute truth. Ereshkigal was typically strict and uncompromising, but she was also utterly just. Hers was always the final say. When your time came to stand before Ereshkigal you saw reflected in her eyes your ultimate worth as a human being. And for that reason she was much feared; not because Ereshkigal was inherently evil, but because in her eyes you saw the reflection of your own soul ... who you really were. She showed you the ultimate truth and that is totally terrifying for most of us. Previous attempts. I think I was pretty close with III but she still looked too Euro. Though her pale skin fit the concept of Queen of the Dead, I always wanted my Ereshkigal to look alive. My first Ereshkigal

She looks fantastic Roxy :) This is a lovely interpretation of her and your words so true. Hers was a job with few rewards and she was indeed the most 'law-abidding' of them all. She was always conscious of the Law of Conservation and fair in her rulings. Beautiful work hon. Love it!

You are right on all counts! And awesome to see a render after so long. I like your third alot, but I get the Euro part. The first thing I noticed on MDDs Sakkara was her nose and how authentic it looked for her suggested portrayal/heritage. Your patience is truly rewarded and you've made a fantastic depiction. Perfectly grim setting and excellent render. Gorgesous and scary, all at once. Great info too. I may have missed this description earlier, I don't know, but at least it sounded familiar. I think I've learned more about Sumerian mythology from you and Rayvn more than anywehere else. Thanks! That's quite a comeback!

I think you found your model Roxy. She certainly fits the bill on all counts and you rocked the scene. I can imagine that the idea of seeing that which you truly are could be fearsome for many... and that's the sad part.

I am happy to see a new render of you, Roxy. And it is such an awesome scene. It was worth to wait that long for the right character, she looks perfect. I also love how you composed the scene with so many details in it and great effects. A fantastic image that has to be viewed in full size!

That Historical information you gave is another wonderful thing but,You right about that last Ereshkigal character,She's really looks more ancient middle eastern than others:-)))Also I can understand your elaboration about the Mythical/historical characters and their looks!Mostly of time I'm in distress about details if I have a Historical Concept in my mind,Sometimes it's about Outfits, sometime props or hair styles or make ups!If I couldn't satisfied after first Couple of test renders I can completely give up that project, or put it off for to deal with later,Because Authenticity is very important for me especially The renders about historical incidents:-)))) This one is magnificent as an Mythological concept,Superb work Roxy:-)))))))))))))))))))))))))

A very interesting description of this goddess. Yes, I also believe that we must distinguish. Between malignancy and justice If someone has done nothing to debt, he has anything to fear. Nice to have you here Ereshkigal smiles. Thus it acts human. (Although she is up to the knees in bone). You worry really very much about the appearance of your characters. I like that. You give in the value of uniqueness.
