Description

Yesterday, a pair of Egyptian Geese moved into our back yard, They are native to Africa south of the Sahara and the Nile Valley, and have been introduced to parts of Western Europe. I don't know how they got to south Florida. They were considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians, and appeared in much of their artwork. They grow to 25 to 28 inches (63 to 73 cm) long and with a wing span of about 58 inches (147cm). The expected life span is 15 years. The sexes of this striking species are identical in plumage, though the males average slightly larger. When the wings are fully spread, it is an act of aggression. Some sites claim that they are ducks and others say geese. I can only say that the male honked like goose and the female quacked like a duck. Some info from Wikipedia. No photographers were harmed while taking these photos. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

How fortunate you are to have these drop in on you! They are probably fleeing all of the Middle East violence. My gosh, they are all masked...or is that a veil or headscarf of some sort?

Great looking birds ,those brown rings around the eyes make them look slightly crazy. Looking at the top picture I can see why you thought the thumb nail pic of my wood pigeon shot was a Goose.

They are strangely attractive, aren't they? I don't think I've seen them on this side of the Atlantic, but who knows; they have wings, and I suppose they could have migrated, or hitched a ride on a passing freighter. Lucky you to have them as neighbors!
