Description

Lucky enough to catch a slow and low flying Great White Heron. It looks like some nest building was going on. These graceful egrets are about 39 inches (99 cm) tall and with an impressive 51 inch (130 cm) wingspan. The black legs are important for identification since the identical bird, with yellow legs, is the larger White Great Blue Heron. These photos were taken at my favorite swamp, the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, just west of Delray Beach, Florida Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. I think I may of seen these recently in Texas but I thought they were Egrets I didn't realize there were white herons. beautiful shots.

It always amazes me, how these herons fly, always with their neck - NOT outstretched! - but pulled right back, it's so weird, something you don't see most other birds do, maybe pelicans ? fine capture Dana, BB
