Description

No history, just what was probably a common sight during the 1960's and 70's. A KC-135 doing it's part to keep the birds in the air. In this case, the "birds" are North American F-100 Super Sabres, "Huns", or "Lead Sleds" if you prefer, the US of A's first operational supersonic fighter (if I'm not mistaken). Understated color palette is probably an unconscious nod to one of my favorite aviation artists, Keith Ferris. I had to put together a refueling hose and basket extensionj for the tanker, since the old Hun had an external refueling nozzle and boom similar to the Navy's. F-100 Super Sabre: Bazze here on Rendo, some texture tweaking by myself KC-135: Free on sketchup warehouse by Titan I think. Refueling "basket"...yes it's there: bits n pieces from here and there. Pilots: Jet Pilot free on sketchup warehouse by Max Greuter with tex tweaks. Cinema C4dXL CE+,Vue6Infinite, PS Cs3

Hey, Keith would applaud you. This is very Ferris-like and that should be a feather in your hat. Chuck Yeager said the "Hun" was his favorite operational aircraft that he flew (Chuck is my god). So good work and keep em flyin'.

Wonderful image. Looks completely like a photo rather than a rendered image!

Clean and 'simple' and VERY effective! This is one of those 'jobs' that looks so simple in picture form or on video. Endless sky, huge tanker, small plane....fly up, hook up and fill up. Of course the truth is different, a very dangerous and highly skilled and orchestrated operation. You have created an image that is informative and interesting but also makes what amounts to 'mundane housekeeping' pleasing to the eye. The letterbox format gives a nice 'sweep' when zoomed. Another excellent piece of aviation art.......10/10++

Bravo Bill, has placed six planes in the air and get that everyone has room to fly. It is a very elegant composition. Like air refueling, it seems easy but it is not.
