Description

Leaf and Dew Drops First use of Blender in five years. The leaves in the background consist of an image I found online, placed on a “plane” and rotated vertically. The main leaf was created using an image of a leaf within blender as a “background image.” I then used a plain and added cuts, then using “G,” moved the verts to align with the shape of the leaf image. I next selected verts on one side of the leaf, and rotated them up slightly, doing the same to the other side. Thus giving the slope from the outside of the leaf to the center. I then curved the front and back slightly down, to make it a more realistic shape. Next step was to unwrap the leaf plane (Unwrap->Project From View) and add a texture. The texture was the image I had used as the template background. I created a dew drops using a UV Sphere Mesh, duplicated it, scaled them down, then scaling them slightly on the “X” axis to make them a little less perfectly round. I then pushed them down almost half way through the leaf plane, changed their property to “Glass” with a Reflective Index of 1.33. Set up very simple lighting, and hit render. My jaw dropped. I had never used Unwrap before. I use it on almost everything now :) I just fiddled with the lighting until I got the effect I wanted, then changed the Depth of field for the camera. Hope you enjoy the image. NOTE: I had sent this image to a friend who emailed back, asking where I took the photo, what time, what camera I used, the speed settings and F-stop. He was floored when I wrote him back that the whole thing was created in a FREE 3d program known as Blender :)

I haven't used Blender for about five years, as well. I'm in awe of the things it will do now! This is outstanding.
