Description

Sig posted a picture of a tree yesterday, and I'm pretty sure this is the same tree! We weren't together when we took the photographs, and I think they were actually taken on different days, but ... well ... see what you think. You can see Sig's picture HERE for comparison. (He would have been standing around to my left if we'd been there at the same time.) For those of you who might be interested ... This is a pretty clear cross section of Triassic geology. The rocks I'm standing on (Moenkopi) are about 250 million years old. Across the valley, the sheer cliffs (Wingate) are closer to 200 million years old, with the sloped, striped, sand-dune looking bits (Chinle) somewhere in between.

I'm with Sig hon...beautifully composed and just enough geology to get me seeing and thinking about all those layers and all that time once again. As the little guy said, "Inconceivable!"
