Hello! Thank you for taking the time to view my work. And an extra thanks to those who take the time to comment or favorite. I deeply appreciate it.
This is another of my "inspired by" works. The source of my inspiration was White silk beach by DanielleDroeven (please check out her work!). I learned a fair amount from this image.
The first struggle was trying to come up with a snow material to match the background. The foreground is a simple snow mesh I made. It has rises and falls that were nice and subtle in the original render, but are practically invisible in this version. The background is an image on one of Predatron's backdrop meshes. I was never entirely satisfied with how I matched the two, but in hindsight I think that was more about lighting than material. Still, it was my first time playing with snow and it was an interesting material challenge.
The second lesson was about the composition and pose. What I found interesting about the original image was the overwhelming whiteness and the idea of the circular train. I had my own vision for a composition and pose. Unfortunately, what works so well about that image is the pose and placement of the figure. Without that point of visual interest, I needed more to my scene. So I had to make a lot of changes to my original concept, and pose this twice.
The hooded dress was part of the original concept, and it was a little bit an issue from the start. But I knew it would be, because I'd had some trouble with hoods before. From WhimsySmiles' posts about dynamic cloth hair, I knew I had to make the brow body part visible and exclude it from collisions. I learned I also needed to sim it so that it got pulled forward, which makes sense as real hoods need pulling forward. It took a few tries to get it to sim as I wanted, but it eventually worked.
The waist thingy was really easy to sim. I made it because I felt like the dress needed a splash of color and the figure could use some help defining her waist.
The tree and pennant are from Elfin by Thorne, Sarsa, and Mada. Thing is, the pennant is supposed to be on the other side. I turned the tree around, but then the pennant was backwards. That's when I learned that negative scaling doesn't seem to work in Poser. So I brought the pennant into Blender and made several morphs for it (reversed, moved, etc.) to get it to fit. Easy and fun. Blender's sculpting tools are oh so easy to use, and Blender has a concept called "shape keys" that work just like morph dials.
The armlets and bracelets are from my Temple Wear 01 set. All the materials are mine, and the character is my own dialing.

Reminds me a little of a Nene Thomas painting--I love the drape of the cloth and the red and white color scheme!

Now that is art.

Completely and enthusiastically agree with Drakkendark: this is indeed art, very thoughtfully composed and elegantly presented. A vision of white, the silence is almost deafening, like standing in a forest after a heavy snowfall. The red of the drape and black of your figure's hair all pull the image together nicely (the hair is a stunner! - wish there were more details in your comments about the hair and how you got it to behave so well) but of course, the crowning beauty of the image is the dress and how it drapes on the ground. About the only thing missing, really, are the goosebumps... mind you, I felt goosebumps, just looking at this beautiful image (full-sized) of cold snow and bare arms. :D
