Description
At the end of a hard week, the Gentlefolk of New Brighton like nothing more than donning their 'Sunday best' and going for a stroll along the prom. This is a tradition that has been passed down from Generation to Generation, as has the 'Sunday best'. Of course we get out of town visitors, living away from the coast, they are easily recognisable by their strange attire and the fact they are usually unarmed. All are welcome and cheerily greeted with the customary "outta my way ya scurvy landlubber, afore I run ya through!". Talks are afoot to possibly introduce more fashionable 'Sunday best' but the penny wise people of New Brighton believe there's a few more generations in the 'old threads' yet.....I'll keep you posted on that one.
Tomorrow I shall dispel the scurrilous myth that 'All Scousers are football hooligans"....it may help if I point out at this juncture "I detest football (soccer if you prefer).
Oh yes! I almost forgot, the photos were actually taken at last years 'Annual Pirate Muster'........or were they???

Interesting stuff! Wish you'd included a closer look at the woman and child in the lowest of the pictures. I'm always interested in historical costuming.

And there was me thinking this was some kind of cult movment you have going on in Liverpool :) Seriously though, it's great to see people still keeping things like this alive. As for your football comment, so which do you detest more... Liverpool or Everton :)

Ah... I thought it was the Pie-rats of Penzance who finally got arrested for grand pee-ratting on the high seas (pollution!). I simply love these kinds of traditions. Like Viking Day in Lund - with luck, you may see a sword fight. Or medieval day in Lund, again, dressed up and selling medieval sausage and other medieval food (I wonder how they get it to last so many centuries!). And knights jousting in the city park (yep! REAL horses and REAL chain mail, swords, etc...). But tomato ketchup, not real blood. Maybe that's a good thing! Maybe the pee-raters can be used to control football hooligans - a run-through or two should teach tem to behave! Thanks for the laughs at your comment on Debbielove's photo of ye olde Beechcraft flying contraption. I really enjoyed them! Thanks again for the fun posting! :-)
