Description
"Not just another pretty face" can easily be said of this "hulking brute" of an aircraft, the Gloster Javelin. After many versions the Javelin entered service with the RAF in 1965 as an all weather and night fighter/interceptor, the UK's first missile carrying interceptor. Introduced and serving in the RAF without being proven in combat or any significant conflict, the twin engined delta wing Javelin had to be content with the unspectacular day to day job of protecting the country against the proliferating Soviet bomber advances of the cold war.
The public yawned at the Javelin, but many pilots found that it's wide range of weaponry, roomy cockpit, and stability (if they stayed within its limits guidelines), suited them just fine.
The Javelin was replaced with the BAC Lighting, with the last unit being assigned to the RAE until being retired in 1976. Its home is currently the Imperial War Museum in Duxford.
Gloster Javelin: Very impressive brute modeled masterfully by Pedro Caparros and available free at Sharecg.com
Pilots: Jet pilot by Max Greuter free at sketchup warehouse.

And rendered masterfully by your good self.... not sure if it's 'PC' to say, but I always feel it's a little sad that so many great fighters never got to prove themselves. I suppose in that respect they did sterling work as a deterrent...... I have photos of the Duxford one, and also one at RAF Manston in the late 70's. Another stunning model by Pedro, I'll have to check it out. Your usual stunning aviation art, very dynamic and action packed..

Bravo! I love the dynamism and composition of the aircraft over the "carpet" of clouds. Thank you very much for the mention.

It was not the fastest, or the most nimble but, it could fly in anything.. And way as level as a brick! As you say, as long as you don't go mad, it will do what you need and get you home.. The pilots loved it.. I did see one at an RAF Homeday, impressive beast, big powerful looking,... Great model, great render! Well done.. Rob
