Not far from Moraine Lake and the Valley of the 10 Peaks is Emerald Lake. It is located over the Continental Divide and down into Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. Wikipedia says: It is the largest of the Yoho NP 61 lakes and ponds, as well as one of the park's premier tourist attractions. A 3.2 mile (5.2 km) hiking trail circuits the lake. The lake is enclosed by mountains of the President Range, as well as Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain. This basin traps storms, causing frequent rain in summer and heavy snowfalls in winter. Due to its high altitude of 4,272 feet (1302 meters) above sea level, the lake is frozen from November until June. The vivid green and turquoise colors in the water, are caused by suspended powdered limestone and is most spectacular in July as the snow melts from the surrounding mountains.
