Description

Meanwhile 2000 miles southeast of Outpost 94 is Outpost 100. Nicknamed OZ because of the color of its biodome, OZ has a less than stellar and somewhat sordid history. During the 40th century some military geneticists began conducting experiments whereby human embryo genes were spliced with those of various fish species. This was based on the hypothesis that the individual development of an organism reflects its evolutionary history or phylogeny at certain stages human embryos are indistinguishable from those of fish. Thus by splicing fish genes into human embryos a new species of man – Homo Piscine – could be created. Why you ask? Simply to create a warrior who would require no apparatus to remain underwater. The experiments did not produce the expected results but did produce some very alien looking individuals. The project was shut down and the outpost converted to an ark. Homo Piscines were given the option of remaining with OZ or returning to the mainland. Given their odd appearance, most chose to remain on OZ. Technically they had neither mothers nor fathers so they chose their surnames based on what species of fish their genes had been sliced with. Ok, slipped to the East a bit. Sorry, the image is not the best but !@$%%^ Bryce kept crashing. Thanks again for the looks, comments and favs. If I start to bore you give me a heads up by email. Again some of this is science fact. The names, times and places have been changed to protect the innocent.

This is a sad tale.. and one that happens more often than we are aware of. (the gene splicing, I mean). I wonder how this new species will fare. Not bored with this series at all. Please continue my friend.
