Description
Yes, but one I never saw before, sporting features similar to that of a goose, with the bill and webbed feet, but the bill is black, as are those few tail feathers. The overall body feathers are an elegant, smooth, alabaster white, and the bird in general seems dainty and more refined in comparison to the generic run of geese. An anomaly of epic proportions.
I researched geese on Google, but found no hint or foto as to this type. Then again, maybe this isn't a goose per se, but a distant relative. If anyone can ID this species, give us a holler.
In any event, captured 5/12/10, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
Adjo, baby, and have a nice day.
UPDATE:
Both Mark-David-Rogers and myrrhluz were right on in identifying this beauty. Thanks tons for your input and research, it is more than appreciated. I don't have much patience in the miieu of research. Anyway, this species does go by a variety of names, including Blue Goose.

Very nice capture of this goose, and I also have not seen one like it before Harry.

I think I can identify it for you I think it's called a Snow Goose. Nice capture too.

My lack of knowledge on geese would fill volumes, but he looks like a white goose - genus or subgenus Chen. Check out this page: http://www.avianweb.com/whitegeese.html He's lovely! I like the way you have captured him in the shade with patterns of sun around him. Great shot!

Mark-David-Rogers and myrrhluz, thanks again for identifying this beauty. But, as a Snow Bird, what was it doing in a very warm area of Southern California?

Very unique goose, can't say I have ever seen one here in the north east; loads of Canadian geese though.

Marvelous capture of this beautiful goose, Harry; I've never seen one before, but perhaps the name "snow goose" is to do with the colour and not the habitat? All we have here are the Canada geese and an assortment of duck species. Perhaps that one finds the Whittier Narrows a good place for food and protection?

awww she is so pretty!!!

While its more likely got Snow Goose/White Goose it it, if it hangs about humans its more likely a cross species.. Both those two mentioned are pretty much wild birds that like out in the cold areas.. But! Don't quote me on that, I did check the link.. But, it really does not detract from your lovely and well captured photo Harry.. Excellent bird capture./. Rob
